Maryland State AED Laws
Summary of Requirements
A sponsoring physician is required. AED operators must complete educational training and refresher courses as mandated by the EMS Board. Facilities must register with the nearest jurisdictional emergency medical services operational program. Defibrillators must be maintained, operated, and tested per manufacturer guidelines, with written records maintained as specified by the EMS Board. In case of AED use, immediate notification through 911 is required, as well as notification to the nearest jurisdictional emergency medical services operational program.

CPR/AED Training | Each individual who operates an automated external defibrillator must successfully complete an educational training course and refresher training as required by the EMS Board. |

Maintenance Program | The defibrillator must be maintained, operated, and tested according to the manufacturer's guidelines. Must have written records of the maintenance and tested of each automated external defibrillator as required by the EMS Board. |

Notification of Use | Notification of the emergency medical services through the use of the 911 universal emergency access number as soon as possible is required on the use of an automated external defibrillator. Must also notify the closest jurisdictional emergency medical services operational program. |
