Summary of Requirements
A physician's prescription is required for an automated external defibrillator. A sufficient number of employees must receive training in AED use to ensure availability during regular business hours. The AED must be regularly maintained, inspected, and serviced according to the manufacturer's guidelines, and its location must be clearly marked. In the event of potential need, a policy must be in place to activate the emergency medical services system by calling 9-1-1 as soon as possible. There are no specific EMS notification requirements.
