Virginia State AED Laws
Summary of Requirements
A licensed physician is required to supervise the defibrillation program, including personnel training, coordination with local emergency medical services, protocol approval, deployment strategies, and equipment maintenance. All operators of the automated external defibrillator must complete approved training in CPR and AED use. AEDs must be registered with the Board of Health, and they should be maintained and tested following manufacturer's guidelines and regulatory requirements. There is no current legislation regarding the notification of AED use.
